(CLASS: Actinopterygii, ORDER: Perciformes, FAMILY: Carangidae)

One of the most important families of tropical marine fishes, this group includes the Jacks and Popanos that are fished, both commercially and for recreation. They cheifly inhabit marine waters, although some are brackish, of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Adults are fast swimming predators of the waters above the reef and in the open sea - some are known to root in sand for invertebrates and fishes. This image depicts a collection of spherical fish eggs - note the oil droplet in each egg.
